Canine Ultrasound Scan

Ultrasound Scans are best performed 28 days from the last mating

Scans can be carried out before this if …

a) Progesterone Testing has been carried out and day of ovulation has been determined
b) Concerns over unusual discharge warrant checking for signs of infection (this does not substitute advice from a vet).

Re-Scans are advised after initial pregnancy confirmation if …

a) A single puppy is detected on an initial scan (which sees a higher incidence of resorption)
b) Unusual discharge is witnessed during the pregnancy
c) Partial or complete resorption is suspected or the bitch has a history of failure to carry full term

Post whelp & during whelping scans are advised when …

a) Suspicions are such that fetal death may have occurred in one or more puppies.
b) Uncertainty exists as to whether any puppies remain in the uterus unborn.

I am an experienced Sonographer who initially worked in a hospital setting but transferred over to Canine Fertility around 1999 a natural progression due to our three-decade involvement in dog breeding and showing, I was trained by an NHS Radiographer.
