Scans can be carried out before this if …
a) Progesterone Testing has been carried out and day of ovulation has been determined
b) Concerns over unusual discharge warrant checking for signs of infection (this does not substitute advice from a vet).
Re-Scans are advised after initial pregnancy confirmation if …
a) A single puppy is detected on an initial scan (which sees a higher incidence of resorption)
b) Unusual discharge is witnessed during the pregnancy
c) Partial or complete resorption is suspected or the bitch has a history of failure to carry full term
Post whelp & during whelping scans are advised when …
a) Suspicions are such that fetal death may have occurred in one or more puppies.
b) Uncertainty exists as to whether any puppies remain in the uterus unborn.
